    Description:

Response to Intervention (RtI) is the practice of providing high quality instruction/interventions matched to student need, monitoring progress frequently to make decisions about changes in instruction and applying child response data to important educational decisions. Effective implementation of RtI requires leadership, collaborative planning and implementation by professionals across the education system.

    Why is RtI important?

A well-integrated system connects general, remedial and special education through scientifically based practices, common measures and explicit decision-making procedures driven by child outcomes. (NASDSE) RtI addresses student needs through use of data that focus on student performance and learning rate to provide high quality instruction and intervention at each tier of support.

    What are its implications?

Response to Intervention and the Ohio Integrated Systems Model (OISM) share key components: a three-tiered model of service delivery, use of a collaborative problem-solving process, and an integrated academic and behavior data collection system to inform instructional decisions at each tier. Like OISM, Response to Intervention (RtI) is an integrated approach to service delivery that encompasses general and special education.
